Winter is coming… Is your business ready for the triads energy price peaks?

WINTER IS COMING… IS YOUR BUSINESS READY TO AVOID ENERGY PRICE PEAKS?

As winter approaches and our reliance on light and heat through electricity increases, demand on National Grid becomes greater. The 3 highest demand peaks are called Triads, and they are the half hour periods that electricity transmission networks charge the most for and use consumption data across the network to calculate transmission charges for the rest of the year. If you can avoid the Triads, then you will save significant amounts on the charges for the 3 peaks and help reduce annual transmission fees.

To participate in peak avoidance, you can sometimes work with your supplier, manually participate by yourself or alternatively, you can work with an aggregator such as Endeco to provide a bespoke level of triad avoidance depending on your operations. By working with Endeco, you will also open a gateway to many other savings and revenue generation opportunities you may not receive through other providers.

Triads often go hand in hand with DUoS daily peak avoidance too. DUoS are the charges that go back to the distribution network (local networks). Again, when these daily energy cost peaks are avoided, businesses can make significant savings. Typically, the seasonal Triads will fall within a DUoS peak, so by avoiding one, you avoid the other.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF THE LEVELS OF TRIAD AVOIDANCE WE CURRENTLY PROVIDE…

All of these clients take advantage of revenue and savings stacking by participating in frequency response and capacity too. All of which is managed through our single platform, and is visible via our newly updated state-of-the-art portal – a window into your energy activity.

We understand that some clients do not always want to jump straight in to automation, which is why they start off with manual participation through Triad warnings and gradually move towards automation. All of our clients that participate in peak avoidance are involved in some form of frequency response or balancing services through the platform, so quite often once they have seen first hand the capabilities of EnergyConnect and how their operations are not negatively affected, they are more than happy to move across to automation. The majority of clients start with the automated solution to ensure they optimise savings from day one.

The Triad system is generally welcomed by large industrial users of electricity because they have an opportunity to reduce their overall energy bills by switching off plant at a time that might coincide with one of the three half-hour times of peak demand– Stuart Boyle, National Grid.
